About Us

Our Story

Located within the beautiful West Sussex countryside between the towns of Horsham and Billingshurst, Bramble Hill Farm has been in the ownership of Chris McIlwraith and his family since 1996.

Arranged over 106 acres, the farm comprises pastureland for haymaking and sheep grazing, beautiful ancient woodlands and 20 commercial units that are rented out to local businesses, ranging from traditional toy shops to photography studios.  View our unit availability here.

The History of the Farm

Over the years the land at Bramble Hill Farm has been used for different types of agricultural farming.

In the 1970s the farm was home to a herd of dairy cows for milk and cheese production.  More recently, approximately 14,000 chickens were housed at the premises for the production of free-range eggs.

Unfortunately due to government restrictions and supermarket price cuts in 2002, the traditional farming way of life at Bramble Hill was no longer sustainable.  After six years, Chris decided to diversify into commercial business units.

Today you can still see remnants of the farm’s former life.  The old milking parlour and bull pen have (thankfully) been modernised for tenants and larger industrial units have been built in the footprint of chicken houses.

Modern Farm Life

Chris and his family have poured heart and soul into transforming Bramble Hill Farm and this is reflected in the farm’s popularity, with  business units rarely unoccupied.

The team’s ethos is on helping local businesses thrive; a sentiment echoed in their promise to keep leases flexible and rents manageable.  They pride themselves on creating a friendly and productive rural environment for small and medium businesses to flourish.

Chris is also passionate about local wildlife and the farm provides refuge to fallow deer, birds and a range of British wildlife.  Careful farming practices ensure hedgerows and farm boundaries are maintained, encouraging local wildlife to nest and live in the undergrowth.

Bramble Hill Farm truly is one of West Sussex’s gems.
